01Who this route is for
Global Talent is for adults recognised as leaders or potential leaders in academia or research, arts and culture, or digital technology. Most applicants need an endorsement; a named winner of a listed prestigious prize can use the prize route.
02Exceptional talent
For an established leader, with evidence of recognised achievement and contribution. The field’s endorsing body decides what evidence satisfies its criteria. Seniority or a job title alone does not establish eligibility.
03Exceptional promise
For a potential leader with evidence of emerging recognition. The applicable field and endorsing body determine whether a promise route exists and what it requires. Promise is not a lower-cost visa or a guaranteed endorsement.
04Choose the right field
Digital technology covers eligible technical and commercial work. Arts and culture has discipline-specific rules. Academic and research applicants have their own endorsement pathways. Use the specialist guidance below to build the correct evidence plan.
05For people already in the UK
In-country enquiries are welcome. Switching depends on current permission; visitors, people on immigration bail and several other categories cannot switch in the UK. Student switching has additional course/PhD conditions. Endorsement alone does not extend permission.
06Work and longer-term plans
Digital technology applicants do not need a job offer or a minimum salary. Digital talent can lead to settlement after 3 years and promise after 5, subject to all requirements; other fields have their own rules. A visa or settlement outcome is never automatic.
