UNDERSTAND YOUR OPTIONS

A clear place to begin.

01

Short visits to the Schengen area

A short-stay visa usually permits up to 90 days in any 180-day period, subject to the permission granted. UK residence does not automatically remove a visa requirement.

02

Choose the responsible consulate

Apply to the country of your main destination: normally the longest stay, or first destination for equal stays. Usually the consulate must cover the country where you legally reside.

03

Plan the timing

Applications may be lodged up to 6 months ahead and normally at least 15 days before travel. Standard processing is 15 days but can extend to 45 days. Appointment waiting time is additional.

04

A clear travel file

Prepare the required passport, form, photo, insurance, purpose, accommodation, funds and return-intention evidence. The consulate may require more documents. Use accurate plans and check the destination’s current checklist.
